Camp Foxtail Resident Camp

ACA LogoCamp Foxtail is open to all girls ages 7-17 years. Camp Foxtail is managed by the Girl Scouts of Frontier Council , and is accredited by the American Camping Association.

Health and safety are our priority. A licensed nurse or EMT provides care on site at the infirmary. A physician is on call 24 hours a day. All other staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR. The Clark County Health Department has licensed the kitchen with a Class A rating. Drinking water is tested by the county, and camp meets regulation health and fire codes.

Foxtail program is designed so girls and staff form a temporary camping unit. The staff, site and facilities are furnished by the Council. Rules for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for every girl, regardless of race, religion or national origin. Every attempt will be made to accommodate girl with disabilities (a handicapped accessible bathroom has been installed), however, due to rocky terrain and 1950's construction, the overall camp is not wheelchair accessible. Additionally, the staff is not trained to handle severe emotional or psychiatric problems. Girls register for resident camp as individuals.

Camp Foxtail is located in the Toiyabe National Forest high above Las Vegas in the cool Spring Mountain Range. Girls aged 7-17 spend from 3-11 days among Aspen, Ponderosa and Foxtail Pine. The temperature at camp is cool in the early mornings and in the evenings, but can get up to 85 degrees during the day. Base camp is 8500' with the highest unit at 9000'.

Campers live in 1 of 4 units which have either platform tents or cabins, flush toilets or latrines, washstands, shower houses and a fire circle. Counselors/staff live in a separate cabin or tent, central within the unit.

Programs and activities at Camp Foxtail include hiking, nature studies, crafts, overnights away from camp, campfire singing, and a variety of special interest activities. These might include backpacking, art, earth conservation and leadership programs for older girls, to name a few. There is something for every girl at Camp Foxtail.

Camperships

Any girl who is registered member of Girl Scouts of Frontier Council prior to March 3, 2008, who cannot afford to attend resident camp, may apply for financial assistance. Camperships are granted based on the needs of the girl, her commitment to Girl Scouting, and the availability of funds. Only one campership per girl, per summer, please. Financial assistance is only available to cover resident camp fees. Trading post and t-shirt/sweatshirt costs are optional and will not be considered for financial assistance.

Selections will be made by committee review, and based upon the availability of funds. Parents/ guardians will receive notice of action taken on or before May 30, 2008. Campership funds, once designated, are non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash. Campership applications  received after April 4, 2008 will not be considered! Additional information on how to apply for campership assistance and application forms are in the camp catalog.

Camperships are made possible by the generosity of individuals, organizations and businesses throughout Girl Scouts of Frontier Council, who understand the importance of making camp available to every Girl Scout. In 2007, forty-five (45) girls received financial assistance through camperships. Please be generous and make your tax deductible donation today by completing our donor form.

A $25.00 registration fee must be submitted with the campership application along with the registration form to attend resident camp. This will be refunded if the campership is not granted.

Girl Scout families with more than one girl attending may request a discount at the time of registration. This is not considered a campership.
