Calico is a 30 acre, year round, day use facility operated
by Girl Scouts of Frontier Council. It is for use by Girl Scout
troops/groups ONLY. Calico is located in the Red Rock Recreational
Area in Calico Basin.
Facilities
Calico is an unimproved, desert property. There are picnic
tables and several hiking trails. There is also an Amphitheater
area. There is no water, nor permanent restrooms (portable
units will be provided). From mid-spring through mid-fall,
it will get quite hot. THERE IS NO SHADE! This location
also is known for its strong gusts of wind. This is a low-impact
area. As such, you are asked to keep to the trails whenever
possible and walk softly on the land if you need to leave
the trail. The desert environment may look hardy, but it
is in fact, fragile.
Restrictions
Smoking is not permitted on trails
or in the desert.
Alcoholic beverages are not permitted
at Girl Scout events where minor girls and their activities
are the focus of the event.
No illegal substances of any kind are
permitted on the site.

Reservations
Advance reservations for day use must be made by submitting
a completed site reservation form. Council events may be
reserved up to six months in advance; Service Units may make
reservations up to four months in advance; and troop/group
reservations may reserve up to three months in advance.
Fees
Fees are not charged for the use of Calico, however, the
cost of providing a portable restroom unit for an event is
$85. Girl Scouts of Frontier Council will make arrangements
for a "porta potty" to be on-site for reserved
dates; any donation made toward the cost of covering this
expense would be greatly appreciated. If your troop/group
decides to cancel your use date without the required written
notice, the troop will be billed for the entire "porta
potty" fee of $85.
