These
program boxes are available with a variety of topics for
leaders and service units to use as a resource when working
with girls. Program kits are recommended for Brownies and
Juniors; with the "Her Story" kits recommended
for Daisy girls. A boxed program kit contains an activity
booklet, as well as most of the supplies you may need to
complete the activities. Program boxes are supplied with
materials for up to 15 girls. Additional materials will
need to be purchased by the troop. The rental price and
deposit fee varies with each program box.

Addy
(1864)
The
Civil War has just ended and Addy is now free.
The girls can make lemonade, jump rope, play traditional
games, learn about music, and make a doll size
rug. |
Meet
the doll “Addy and Her Story”.
This gives girls of all ages an introduction to Addy.
Next the girls can make a revolving serpent like what
was used in 1864. The girls will have a blast making
lemonade from real lemons and playing jump rope with
the rest of the troop.

Addy’s “Fun
with Games” will take your
troop back to 1864 with the games that girls
played. Storytelling was an important activity
in the early days and you can share a story.

Addy’s “Theater
Fun” is rich with the culture
of 1864. African-American music is some of the
richest and most beautiful today. Let your girls
listen to the music of the slaves and learn how
these “secret” songs were collected.

Addy’s “Winter
Fun” is full of brain teasers.
The slaves had to pass the time with songs and
riddles. Sometimes there is no right or wrong
answer but a lively discussion of the answer.
Addy made rugs out of scraps of material but
you can make a latch hook rug for your doll.
Lastly, have fun playing a new game called “Novel
Writers”.

Samantha
(1901)
At
the turn of the century "proper" young
ladies are educated with weekly music classes. Girls
will create a keepsake silhouette, have a tea party,
learn manners and play croquet. |
Meet
the doll “Samantha and Her Story”.
This gives girls of all ages an introduction to Samantha.
Girls will make keepsake silhouettes and use a “new” kitchen
gadget to peel an apple. Then the girls will have a
chance to blow bubbles just like Samantha did with
her friends.

Samantha
is “Miss Manners” and
she will help your troop learn about etiquette. You
can plan to have a tea party and teach the girls table
manners as well as setting a table. In 1904 it was
very important for young ladies to behave in the “proper” way
and know how to act at parties. Exercise was also becoming
important. The girls will get to “get physical” like
the girls did from 1904.

Samantha’s “Parlor
Fun”. Has everything you need
to plan a meeting indoors. The girls will get
to listen to music form the turn of the century.
Some of the songs will be new and some are old
favorites. Cutting out snowflakes and making
candy crystal were another way Samantha kept
busy in the coldest part of the year. Finish
the meeting with a game of animal charades.

WWII

The girls get to make a scrap paper jar, play

Molly “Sewing
Fun” gives the girls a chance
to sit and enjoy learning about 1944. The girls
each make an adorable apple potholder while listening
to the popular songs of the day. Music was a
great reminder of home for the soldiers. More
moms went into the work force so jell-o and quick
fix food items became popular. During the war
secret codes was a way to get messages from one
place to another. Learn how your troop can create
a secret code to pass message to their friends
or family.

|
“Science
In Action” explores
solids, liquids and gasses and other fun science
mysteries. Make weird glop, blow up a balloon
without using your own breath, make a butterfly
of many different colors and create magnetic
patterns. This kit will earn the Brownie “Science
in Action” try-it.
Daisy Girl Scouts will complete other activities.
They complete a beautiful butterfly and play a game
of “Sink or Float?”
