The
President's Award
The Girl
Scout President’s
Award recognizes the efforts of a geographic area team,
or program delivery team, in moving its assigned area or
audience toward achievement of the council’s goals
during the 2000-2001 membership year. Service unit teams
or program delivery teams must strive to meet the following
criteria for selection:
1.team members must have taken
training appropriate to their position
2.delivery of the Girl Scout program is effective resulting in a retention
of at least 75% of their leaders or troops
3.the overall girl membership for the unit has reached the agreed goal
4.the team reflects the diversity of their area
5.the unit has maintained contacts within the community through sponsorships
or collaboration projects
6.area reports are submitted on time
7.and the unit has developed and implemented a plan to support troop/group
leaders and individually registered girl members.
The criteria a service team must meet requires
a great level of commitment. The board of directors of
Girl Scouts of Frontier Council is pleased to honor the
following service teams for their outstanding efforts on
behalf of our council:
Presidents Award for the 2004-2005 year: Silver
Willow Service Team:

DON CLEVELAND
CHERYL GHIRLANDO
DAWN HUTCHINSON
BONNIE KARCH
DEBBIE KELLY
SHANNONE PAKI
ELIZABETH WILLIAMS
SANDRA WYLLIE
LESLIE ZAK
LYNN ZENIER
The Silver Willow service team achieved 9 of the 10 criteria required
for the President’s Award. Their efforts resulted in all service
team members being registered and currently trained for the position
held, an 81% retention rate for troops, achievement of 84% of the targeted
membership goal, for the 2004-2005-membership year. Their service team
reflected the diversity of the service unit area, they achieved documented
community cultivation, submitted required reporting on time, and maintained
a high level of on-going communication with leaders and individually
registered girl members. Additionally, they encouraged, promoted, and
increased participation in council adult generated fund development activities
that generated over $3000 in the last two years.

Kitten has been a volunteer more than 11
years and has held the positions troop leader, consultant,

girls’ disabilities are significant, Kitten has
done an exceptional job of ensuring the girls are able
to participate in as many traditional Girl Scout activities
as possible. Her innovative use of assistive technology

snowfall last year. Through his contacts, he was able
to generate interest from Sierra Pacific who assisted
by sending a crew with heavy equipment to remove snow
from the roads leading to all camp units so repairs could
be made. Without his efforts, hundreds of girls would
not have experienced summer camp in 2005.
SHERI MOZINGO

towards replacement of all of the platform tents, new footings,

Volunteer
of Distinction
The Volunteer of Distinction Award recognizes
adults who provide service, which is outstanding, above and beyond
the expectations for the position held. Service is delivered
at any level of the council, within the council’s jurisdiction,
and contributes to the council’s goals and objectives. The
individual is nominated and endorsed by their peers, approved by the
council adult awards committee and the council board of directors. As
presented by Kelle Boteilho, Director of Membership & Marketing:
SUE VAN ETTEN
This year we would like to pay special tribute through
a posthumous nomination of a very special Girl Scout friend, Sue
Van Etten. Sue had been a Girl Scout volunteer since 1966 with four
different Girl Scout councils across the country. Sue served in the
positions of troop leader, organizer, consultant, neighborhood chair,
council delegate, mentor, adult recognitions chair, and council trainer.
She has received much recognition over the years and is a former
Thanks Badge recipient. For more than 40 years, Sue’s commitment
to the Girl Scout program has significantly impacted the lives of
countless girls and adults. Sue’s gave her heart to the values,
tradition, and benefits of the Girl Scout program. When I first met
Sue a long time ago, I knew immediately she was a true Green Angel.
She was recovering from some significant health problems and, although
she was not able to drive insisted on finding some way to continue
her volunteer service, and with the assistance of her husband John,
she did. Unfortunately, we lost Sue last year to an unexpected tragedy.
She spent her last hours doing what she loved – mentoring other
adults through training. * I spoke with her that night…..It
is with great appreciation of her continued dedication to Girl Scouting
that we present her husband John with this recognition in her honor.
