CARPENTER SELLERS
ARCHITECTS
Carpenter Sellers
has been a constant friend and supporter of Girl Scouts
of Frontier Council. After the loss of Bambi Hall
at Camp Foxtail due to heavy snowfall during the 2005 winter,
Carpenter Sellers offered their support by designing a
new outdoor dining facility for the camp. They generously
donated ALL of their time and effort to the project. In
addition, they continue to donate their time and skills
by participating in events and activities such as the recent “Ms.
Fix It Day”, which paired women in all areas of construction
with over 122 Juniors to learn about everything from building
to landscaping. We appreciate their support and look
forward to a long friendship with the individuals at Carpenter

Years
of Service Pins
Years
of Service Pins recognize levels of continuous service
given in a volunteer position. The recipients in this
category have been registered with Girl Scouts of the
USA for their years of active volunteer service in five-year
intervals. This pin differs from the numeral guard in
that it represents the number of years an adult volunteer
has actively provided service in one position, whereas

Frontier
Silver Award
The
Frontier Silver Award recognizes an individual who has
been a registered member of the Girl Scout movement for
at least 25 years, with a minimum of 5 years in Frontier
Council. The nominee must have performed an outstanding
job, beyond the expectations of the position held and
must have contributed directly to helping the council
move toward its operating objectives and goals. An individual
receives this award only once. This year we are pleased
to recognize:
JANET
NOLD
Janet
began her journey as a girl member in the 1950’s.
She came back to the Girl Scouts in the 1970’s
when her oldest daughter became a Brownie Girl Scout,
taking the position of leader with the Suncoast Girl
Scout Council in Tampa, Florida. In 1974 her husband
was transferred to Nellis Air Force Base and Jan once
again became a Girl Scout leader with Frontier Council.
Eventually she was a leader for both of her daughters
following them through Senior Girl Scouts. Time passed
and in the early 1990’s, Jan’s granddaughter
became a Daisy Girl Scout and Jan became the leader
of yet another generation of girls. Jan kept all of
her girls through their years as Senior Girl Scouts
and two years ago, she watched her granddaughter bridge
to an Adult Girl Scout member. Jan has always taken
great pride in her girls and their great accomplishments
through Girl Scouting. Congratulations to Jan who is
receiving the Frontier Silver Award, the highest membership
award for our council.

Valley Service Unit. Her enthusiasm to place girls
into troops and recruit new volunteer leaders has helped

asset to Green Valley and Frontier Council.
GREG

as Sunrise Service Units. He also manages the East
VISTA Yahoo Group. This insures that leaders from three
Service Units receive information about upcoming council
events, Service Unit events, and other program opportunities.

on council wide events such as Family Skate Night and
Thinking Day. Greg’s service has benefited many
girls and adults in and outside of his assigned areas.

For
fourteen years, Dawn has been a dedicated volunteer
with Girl Scouting. In addition to her work as a leader,
she has been a member of the Service Team for at least
the last 5 years. The Silver Willow Service Unit has
valued her service as the fund development Chair. For
every leaders meeting, Dawn puts together “mystery

seasonal or other themed items. She puts a lot of thought,
time and creativity into the bags. All the proceeds
from the sale of these bags are donated to Council
at the end of the year. Dawn is a constant source of
energy and enthusiasm- a valuable asset to the organization.
DAVINA

the last thirteen years Davina has become more involved
with the Girl Scout Organization. She began as an Assistant
Leader, moved on to become the Troop Leader, and then
joined the Service Team. As a member of the Service
Team, she served in the positions of registrar and
Team Coordinator. Davina ensures leaders meetings provide
a warm, nurturing atmosphere were leaders can get assistance.
Because of her special personality and commitment,
the Roadrunner Service Unit has experienced an increase
in membership.
JILL
SERNA
Jill
Serna is an excellent example of a positive role model
for both girls and adults in Girl Scouting. She has
mentored a troop of girls successfully from Daisys
to Cadettes. The girls in her troop take on numerous
leadership roles and act independently proving that
they have a great leader and role model. Jill has also
been the Green Valley Team Coordinator for the last
four years. Through her leadership, Green Valley’s
membership has continued to rise each year. This is
in large part to her troop formation nights, where
as many as ten new troops have been formed. Jill has
implemented new strategies to retain the leaders they
already have and to help to grow new leaders and make
them feel welcome.
PERRI
TIGGEMAN
Perri
has been the Green Valley Service Unit Cookie Manager
for the last five years. Last year, under her careful
direction, Green Valley sold the most cookies in the
council. Her forethought and organizational skills
have made their cookie sale run smoothly for both new
and returning leaders in one of the largest Service
Units in the council. Perri travels extensively with
her job. She never lets it interfere with her commitment
to Girl Scouts. Her dedication and devotion has made
a difference in her girl’s lives.

years. She started as a co-leader for her nieces Brownie
troop. She actively works with two troops, the Spring
Valley Service Team, and has recently joined the Aquatics

endurance, and confidence.

of Frontier Council Board of Directors. He has been instrumental
to numerous projects that have benefited the entire
council and the Girl Scout movement in Southern Nevada.

of the Henderson Scout House, by soliciting the donation
of custom cabinets for the facility. In addition,

Roadrunner, Whispering Pines and Sunrise Service Units

and has become essential to the smooth running of Camp
Foxtail. Since he began at Foxtail the changes have been
remarkable. He will go out of his way to get whatever
the user may need and to make them feel welcome. During
resident camp he provides back-up to the camp director,
fills the many “maintenance
requests” and even finds time to interact with
the campers. Matt voluntarily took EMT training to provide
a certified EMT on site at all times. In addition to
his duties at camp, Matt has also taken on the daunting
task of maintaining the Service Center, as well as the
Council’s Scout houses.
BONNIE KARCH
Over
the years Bonnie has held many positions on the service
team, including Team Coordinator. Her organization
and calm personality make our volunteers feel welcome
and supported. Bonnie also has been the co-chair of Silver
Willow’s week long day camp for the past two
years serving more than 170 girls! Bonnie provided

finance committee member, and most recently a member

has spent the last seven years teaching the girls of
Frontier Council how to paddle and sharing her joy and
enthusiasm for paddling both canoes and kayaks. She served
as Service Unit Manager for four years in a row. Jan
loves working with older girls. It allows her a chance
to give back to the community and give each new generation
a new perspective of what it means to give of your self
unselfishly. Her troop averages 30-40 hours of community
service each year, by participating in food drives, clean
ups, walkathons, Sudden Service, and Cookie Carnivals
just to name a few. This year will be Jan’s 26th
year as a Girl Scout member and volunteer. She leaves
a legacy for us all to admire and aspire to.
FRANCIS ORTIZ

expectations for the position held. Service is
delivered at any level of the council, within the council’s
jurisdiction, and contributes to the council’s

and endorsed by their peers, approved by the council
adult awards committee and the council board of directors.
PATRICIA
ELLIOTT
Trish
has been a troop leader and program committee
member forever! For many years Trish has helped girls
explore the greater outdoors through her development
and implementation of the council canoe programs. Whether
canoeing the Minnesota Boundary waters or paddling down
the Colorado, you can always find Trish at the lead.
Trish has successfully facilitated more than 75 canoe
trips in the last 10 years, and is still a very active
member of the Aquatics committee, continuing to plan
their next journeys. Trish has also been an active participant
on the council Destinations committee, supporting every
council destination event since its inception in1993,
including the current Europe Destination to be held this
summer. Trish’s service
to Girl Scouting truly merits Frontier Council’s

ROGER FOUTS
Roger
has made Girl Scouts a major part of his life. He
is the leader of his granddaughter’s troop, a member
of the Cheyenne Ridge Service Team, as well as a
Master Level Council Trainer and council committee member.
He is currently the Adult Education Coordinator for his
Service Unit. He put together a workshop specifically
for the leaders in his area about the correct placement
of uniform pieces as well as for Product Sales paperwork
even going so far as to put all the Product Sales
information into a PowerPoint Presentation. As a trainer
he is part of the committee to redesign the entire outdoor
training series of classes. Roger will be moving out
of state shortly and we wanted to make sure he knew he
would be missed. Roger is without a doubt a Volunteer
of Distinction!

In fact, every girl in Marilyn’s troop earned their
Girl Scout Gold Award. Marilyn joined the Gold Award
Alliance in the early years of the committee and has
been very instrumental in bringing it to its fullest
potential. As President of the Gold Award Alliance, she
has reviewed hundreds of Gold Award projects and personally
mentored many, many girls to successful achievement of
their Girl Scout Gold Award. Marilyn also participates
actively in the planning and facilitation of the Young
Women of Distinction Gold Award recognition event each
year. She was crucial in the development and continuation
of the Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship fund, enabling
girls to receive scholarship funds for continued education.
Marilyn also participates actively in the “Go For
The Gold” training, helping girls understand
the requirements of Gold Award projects and mentoring
troop advisors to be encouraging and supportive.
Marilyn is truly a Volunteer of Distinction!
BETTY MONSON
When
it comes to Daisy Girl Scouts there is no one more
knowledgeable than Betty Monson. She has been a Daisy
leader for more than 10 years. Each year her troop consists
of thirty or more Girl Scouts. Since Betty continually
has a Daisy troop every year, it gives her a chance to
show her parents that they too can be a leader. Every
year, she has had at least one new Brownie troop created
from the parents of her Daisy troop. Last year she helped
three separate troops get started. Along with her positions
of Daisy leader and on the Service Team of Roadrunner
Service Unit, she is also a council trainer. Betty trains
all Daisy level volunteer leaders. Betty has even impacted
the Program Department by putting together a prosperous
partnership with the Wetlands Nature Park. She will
take any troop who is interested on a guided tour of
the Wetlands Park. She has also helped create more Council-level
Daisy events, such as Daisy Day at Council, where the
girls received a guided tour of the Girl Scout Service
Center, made clothespin caterpillars, and sang songs.
Betty offers her expertise to all troops, whether at
the Wetlands or just helping leaders with new ideas.
Betty’s
dedication to her Daisy's and Frontier Council make
her worthy of being a Volunteer of Distinction!
Thanks

is the Vice President of Volunteer Relations for the
council board of directors. She has also been a troop
leader, service team member, manager, council committee
member, and is currently a member of the Gold Award
Alliance. Over the years Debbi has provided mentoring,
support, and recognition to hundreds of troop leaders
in her service unit. Her commitment in this role was
exceptional as she served in her service unit manager
position for more than eight years. She then moved
on to the board of directors as a Member-at-Large.
Debbi has been very supportive of council membership
and fund development campaigns, and always acts as
the advocate for the girl in Girl Scouting. Debbi is
a charter member of the Gold Award Alliance and has
