Camp FAQ's for Parents

Camp FeesFoxtail Campers

Fees charged for each camp session is based on the operating cost of each individual session. Therefore, some sessions have a higher/lower fee than others. If you have any questions regarding fees, please contact the Camp Administrator at 385-3677 ext. 260. Fees for each program session reflect both Girl Scout and non-Girl Scout registration costs. Non-members and girls registered as Girl Scouts after March 1st, 2010 must pay the non-member fee.

All session registrations will be billed for the balance of the camp fee at the time you are notified of your camper's placement. Balances are due ten (10) working days prior to the first day of the camp session. If fees are not received by this time, or if a check is returned for non-sufficient funds from the bank, your camper will be placed on a waiting list and will not be guaranteed placement.

YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A PAYMENT REMINDER! Payment of fees can be made by cash, check or credit/debit card (Mastercard/Visa/ Discover) at the council office. We are not responsible for checks that may be late or lost in the mail. Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada strives to keep the cost of camp as low as possible. The operation of Camp Foxtail is "not-for-profit". Non-members and girls registered as Girl Scouts after March 1, 2010 pay the "non-member" fee.

Once your camper's registration has been confirmed for a camp session, there will be a $10.00 processing fee to change or transfer to another camp session. This fee is to cover the cost involved with this transaction, such as postage, copies and staff time.

Deposits

A deposit of $25.00 (cash/check/charge) is required with each camp session registration. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable and are due with the registration form. Financial assistance is available. An application for financial assistance is included with the camp catalog. Financial assistance applications must be completed and submitted with the camp session registration form; the $25.00 deposit is required for all camp session registrations, even if you are requesting financial assistance.

Discounts

Families registering more than one girl for a camp session or girls attending multiple sessions of summer camp are eligible to receive a $10.00 discount on unpaid camp fee balances. The discount will be applied after the first camp registration has been paid. Discount request should be noted on the session registration form. Payment in full for any camp session is required within 10 business days of the first day of the session your camper is registered for; camp fee balance statements are sent with the camp registration confirmation and are due immediately. Unpaid camp fee’s will result in the camper being placed on a waiting list.

Refunds

Deposits are non-refundable. The remainder of the camp fee is refundable under the following circumstances:

  • Written notice is received by Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada two (2) weeks prior to the start of the program session; or
  • A licensed physician states, in writing, that your camper is unable to attend camp due to a health condition.
  • No refunds will be given if a camper returns home from camp due to homesickness, illness, behavior that endangers the safety of campers, staff, or at the desire of the parent/guardian.

Confirmation Packet

A Camper Confirmation Packet, including a Health Examination Form, will be sent to you within two weeks after your registration form has been processed. The completed health examination card should be mailed or brought to the council office no later than ten (10) business days prior to the first day of the session.

TransportationTaking the bus to camp

Chartered bus transportation will be provided for all registered participants. Transportation is coordinated from the Girl Scout Council office located at 2941 Harris Avenue, Las Vegas, 89101. Detailed departure and arrival times will be included with registration confirmation.

If you have an emergency and cannot pick her up at the scheduled time, please call the service center at 385-3677 as early as possible, so that we are aware of the situation, and have an estimated time of arrival. Girls must be signed out by a parent, guardian, or other authorized adult with proper identification.

In order to participate completely in some of the sessions offered, campers will be transported, by van, to an activity. Please read each program session description carefully. When you sign the registration form, and check the appropriate space, please be aware that you are giving your camper permission to leave camp for these events.

Physical Examinations

A physical examination by a licensed physician is required for all campers and staff members prior to attending camp. This exam can be no more than 6 months old on the date that they leave for camp. The appropriate health examination form will be mailed to all campers in the confirmation packet.

Medications and Dietary Restrictions

Prior to boarding the camp bus, all medications MUST be turned in at the check-in site. A special release form must be signed by the parent/guardian for any medication to be administered. ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE IN THEIR ORIGINAL CONTAINER! Prescription medication must have the camper's name on the label. All medications will be administered by the Camp Health Supervisor and documented accordingly. Every effort will be made to distribute medications in a timely manner.

The kitchen staff will prepare foods necessary to meet dietary needs because of health or religious requirements. Camp Foxtail does not have kosher kitchen facilities. It is important this information be included on the "Special Dietary Needs Information" card. For extreme circumstances, please notify Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada at 385-3677, ext. 242, 2 weeks prior to the camp session.

Return to topEmergencies

A licensed nurse or EMT provides care onsite at the infirmary. A physician is on call 24 hours a day. All other staff members are trained in first aid and CPR. Parents/Guardians will be notified in case of emergency or illness. For this reason, it is important that you complete the registration form properly and include all telephone numbers and emergency contacts in case you cannot be reached.

If an EMERGENCY arises, please contact Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada at 385-3677. After regular business hours (5:30 pm and weekends) please call (702) 872-5485.Camp Buddies

Camp Buddies

Girls will make new friends while at camp! They may also assign ONE friend, to attend the same session with them as a camp buddy. Both girl participants must meet the eligible grade level requirement for the program session desired. To ensure placement with a camp buddy, both girls must submit camp registration forms for the same session at the same time. Camp buddies are registered for the same session in the same unit, however we cannot guarantee placement in the same cabin/tent. If accommodations for placement into the same session/unit are not available, both girl participants may be placed in the next available program session of their choice.

Camp Mail

Your camper looks forward to mail from home, so please mail early. Do not send money, food, or candy to camp. Don’t be upset by a camper’s letter; if she is ill or seriously unhappy, you will be notified by the Camp Director.

Your confirmation letter will include the address for your Camper's mail. For additional information, please contact the Camp Registrar at 385-3677, ext. 243.

Homesickness

Homesickness is a natural reaction for anyone being away from home, especially for the first time. All staff members are trained to deal with this and will work with your camper on an individual basis. Camp staff will do everything possible to help girls adjust to camp life. However, resident camp staff reserves the right to send any girl home who consistently exhibits inappropriate behavior or endangers herself or others. The girl’s parent/guardian is responsible for picking her up, and fees will not be refunded.

Phone Calls/ Camp Visitations/ Snacks

This is a growing experience for your camper, and we encourage independence and self-reliance. Campers CANNOT RECEIVE TELEPHONE CALLS while they are at camp. The Camp Director will contact parents if the camper has a medical problem, is excessively homesick, or has an emergency.

Please let your child know before camp that she will not be able to call home and you are comfortable with this. It is important that you do not send your child to camp with a cell phone, as there is little or no coverage, and most importantly, it will send a conflicting message to other campers. We are partners in your child’s summer experience, and we hope that you will support us in making camp happy and fun for everyone.

If there is a family emergency, please contact Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada at (702) 385-3677, or 1-800-762-6032 during regular business hours. After 5:30 PM, on weekends and Mondays, please call (702) 872-5485. Cellular phones do not work in the canyon where Camp Foxtail is located.

Camp visitors ARE NOT PERMITTED during resident camp. Please visit our Open House on Saturday, June 12th, from 10:00 AM - 1:00PM.

Snacks brought from home by campers ARE NOT PERMITTED during resident camp.
