Girl Scout Journeys

Overview

A Girl Scout journey represents a new way that girls can experience Girl Scouting. It is a fun and challenging experience spread over a series of sessions.

Girls at CamporeeThe journey, made up of 5-8 sessions, which follows a designated theme, has a clear starting point (an invitation to explore and take action) and a definite ending point (opportunities to enjoy closure through reflections, rewards, and celebration). Along the way, girls are following a purposeful trail that allows them to have fun, get wiser, and experience all the joys of being a traveler (meeting new people, exploring new tastes and cultures, gathering keepsakes, making memories) while being able to carry this all in one “suitcase”–their journey book!

A print resource for each level will bring the journey to life for girls and incorporate important elements of Girl Scout history and tradition. Each girls’ book immerses Girl Scouts in the topics that make up the journey, while the adult guide features enriching activities for a group of girls, coaching tips, and sample session outlines that you can customize to fit the needs of your group, whether you facilitate a troop, volunteer at a Girl Scout camp, mentor girls on a travel adventure, or engage with girls in a series or event. Together, the girls’ books and
adult guides ensure that every Girl Scout in every pathway receives a consistent, high-quality experience that ties to the GSLE and engages girls in realizing specific leadership outcomes/benefits.

As you work through a grade-level-specific journey book, you’ll have your own learning-by-doing experience, as you come to understand the GSLE even more deeply. As girls work toward and earn the awards that accompany each journey, you’ll be sure the girls are receiving the benefits Girl Scouts promises—and you’ll be able to apply your understanding of the GLSE to everything else girls go on to
do in Girl Scouting.

Girls will earn official awards to display on their vests or sashes during each journey.

No matter how much time girls spend on a journey, the whole is always greater than any single part. So when a Girl Scout journey comes to a close, girls and their adult guides truly feel a sense of accomplishment.

Journey Connections to State Curriculum Standards

The content of both journey series have been correlated (by grade level) to the Health & PE, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies standards for all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia.

To find out how the journeys support curriculum standards, use the drop-down menus to choose the journey series (either It's Your World - Change It! or It's Your Planet - Love It!), grade level and state.

What makes a great Girl Scout year? Earning badges, hiking and camping, taking field trips, selling cookies, and enjoying Girl Scout traditions. Now you can tie all that together with a choice of two leadership journeys.
