It is the highest award a registered Junior Girl Scout (girls in grades 4 or 5) may earn. The Girl Scout Bronze Award recognizes your efforts in a wide range of Girl Scout experiences and shows that you understand and live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law. It shows you have made a promise to help others, improve your community and world, and become the best you can be.
Be sure to check out the new requirements handout.
Transition: There is a 2-year transition period. these guidelines become
official in October 2011 (2011/2012 membership year). GSSNV
will work
under the new guidelines and pre-requisites beginning January 1, 2010. Any
flexibility for girls in mid process of earning
a leadership award will
be reviewed and approved by the girl leadership alliance
committee and based on training completed by the girl working on the
project.
The Girl Scout Bronze Award is a team experience for Junior Girl Scouts. If the girl is not part of a troop, and there are are no Girl Scouts in a girl’s neighborhood, she can connect with other girls her age, including non–Girl Scouts, who may want to be part of her project team.

The suggested minimum hours to complete the steps to the Girl Scout Bronze Award is 20 hours for each girl to build their team, explore their community, choose and plan their project, put their plan in motion, and spread the word to educate and inspire others.
These suggested hours are a guide, not a rule. Not all projects will require the same length of time to complete, from planning to sharing and celebration. The time it takes to earn the award will depend on the nature of the project, the size of the team, and the support of the community. Quality projects should be emphasized over quantity of hours.
Proposals- Project proposals are submitted to the council office for approval.
Sustainable- After the project is complete, girls develop an understanding of sustainability by talking together about how solutions can be lasting.
Global- After the project is complete, girls develop an understanding of the wider world by talking together about how others may experience the same problem that their project helped resolve.
The council provides staff support, resources, learning opportunities, and promotion for girls and volunteers who are working on their Leadership Award projects.
