
Adult Learning courses are reviewed regularly to ensure that the most relevant information is delivered in a concise and meaningful way. Flexible delivery methods are utilized as they become available. Your time is valued and we thank you for taking the time to complete required and specialty training.
Arriving on time, signing in, and staying until the end of the course will ensure you receive credit. Turning your cell phone off or to "vibrate", as well as leaving the training area to answer a call will keep the class moving on schedule for the volunteer instructor and participants.
The online Volunteer Orientation (both English- and Spanish-language versions) will be the first close-up view of the Girl Scout organization for all new volunteers. It is designed to introduce new volunteers to Girl Scouting and the many rewarding opportunities that Girl Scouting offers girls and adults.
This course provides Troop Leaders with instruction on use of the three sets of required council forms (registration, permission, finance), safety standards, and national and council policy and procedures. 2 Hours
This course provides Troop Leaders with instruction on organizing different types of meetings, setting up parent committees to support troop program, stress free beginning troop activities, and an understanding of the fundamentals of pluralism and inclusion. 3.5 Hours
This independent study course provides Volunteers working with girls instruction on organizing and facilitating activities with girls for simple day trips in the local community. Topics include the principles of program travel progression and girl readiness assessment, how to infuse girl centric planning, and basic transportation safety and travel. This is a self study course and includes/requires a learning assessment to be submitted for course credit.
This independent study course provides Volunteers working with girls instruction on organizing and facilitating activities with girls for program activities that involve overnight stay, including overnights in the home, Girl Scout facilities such as Scout Houses, camping activities with sleep in cabins, hotels, and educational overnight programs such as lock-ins. Topics include the principles of overnight progression and girl readiness assessment, how to infuse girl centric planning into the program delivery, and how to evaluate what resources will be needed. This is a self study course and includes/requires a learning assessment to be submitted for course credit; this course is not considered valid without having completed the Moving Away from Your Meeting Place Independent Study packet.
This course provides Volunteers working with girls instruction on organizing and facilitating activities with girls for program activities that involve overnight camp activities in the outdoors, including tent camping in backyards or more primitive camp grounds, and extended travel camp activities to locations outside the local community, and any camp activity that includes any type of outdoor cooking. Topics include the principles of camp activity progression and girl readiness assessment, how to infuse girl centric planning into camp program delivery, and how to evaluate what resources and equipment will be needed, simple outdoor cooking instruction, safety and risk assessment. This course is not considered valid without having completed the Moving Away from Your Meeting Place and Simple Overnight Independent Study packets.
This independent study course is available to any trained adult Volunteer working with girls who has attended a "Simple Camping" training and has practical camping experience with girls during the last three years. This course is not considered valid without having completed the Simple Camping course within the last three years.
This course is required for activities with increased risk, as identified in Safety Wise.
It is recommended that the first-aider be another adult other than the individual who has completed all the other training required for any given event. Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada recognizes CPR and First Aid certification through the organizations listed, simply forward a copy of your certification card to be recorded for your Girl Scout training record. *valid for 2 years

Exploring Journeys
Journeys offer an amazing Girl Scout
adventure for all grade levels. In this class we will review the “How to” guidebook
for adult volunteers which offers key information about the journey, its awards,
and its leadership benefits, along with step-by-step sample plans for sessions
with the girls. The two Journeys are “It's Your World--Change It!" and
“It’s Your Planet-Love It!” ** Completing a Journey is the first step in earning the Bronze, Silver or
Gold Girl Leadership Award**
Sensitive Issues
This four part workshop is designed to help you feel comfortable
dealing with the issues girls face in today’s society. You can take them
all or just the ones that fit your schedule. The topics include: How
to say it to your kids/How to talk so Kids will Listen, Reaching Out Preventing
Youth Suicide, Caring and Coping Facing Family Crises and Valuing Differences
Promoting Pluralism.
Hiking 101
This class will give you a leg up on hiking in the Las Vegas Valley. You
will meet at a local hiking location selected especially for this class to
take a low impact hike as well as learn the best places to go hiking with your
girls that match their experience level. Be sure
to bring sunscreen and water!
Mean Girls
Help your girls survive cliques, gossip, boyfriends, and other realities of
adolescence. Queen Bees, Wannabes, Targets, Torn Bystanders, and others:
how to tell what role your daughter plays and help her be herself Girls' power
plays, from birthday invitations to cafeteria seating arrangements and illicit
parties, and how to handle them.
The book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman ($14.00) is optional with prior order.
Outdoor Fun
Discover the Las Vegas Wetlands to learn about ways to involve your troop
in outdoor nature activities. Free tour of the Wetlands and a free-activity
handout are included.
Dutch Oven Cooking
Learn outdoor cooking at its best! Talk with experienced Girl Scouts about
recipes and different methods for Dutch Ovens. Learn hands-on by preparing
your own meal! The afternoon will be complete when you receive your very own
Dutch Oven recipe book. Cost- $6.00
Girl Scout Ceremonies
Spend an evening talking about and participating in various Girl Scout ceremonies.
This is a great course for new volunteers as well as seasoned veterans.
Topics include Investitures, Rededications, Bridging,
and Flag ceremonies for all age levels and how to engage girls in girl centric
ceremony planning.
An Evening of Songs
Enjoy an evening of songs with fellow Girl Scouts! You will discover old favorites
and new as well, come away with the words and melodies to teach girls the spirit
of songs! Tape recorders welcome!
Artistic Concepts
This is so much more than crafts! Discover some simple techniques in a variety of art mediums and how to engage and inspire girls to be creative. Topics include decoupage, stenciling, paint, reuse/recycle art, and much more!
She’s A Grand Ole Flag!
America’s flag is a very meaningful symbol for our country. This workshop is
designed to help volunteers work with girls on flag etiquette, flag ceremonies,
and the basic rules to present the flag respectfully and appropriately.
Traditions
Girl Scouting has a 95 year history of traditions! This workshop is designed
to learn the basic and special traditions that have been celebrated throughout
our history and how to share these special ways with girls.
The Program Aide workshop is for is a Cadette, Senior or Ambassador Girl Scouts who desire to learn to and teaching specific skills, in assisting with a badge or interest group events, managing ceremony and activity openings and closings songs and games, camping skills, In order to complete the requirements for Program Aide the girl must spend at least 25 hours preparing activities and working directly with girls through a council, service unit, or group event.
This course is a practical exercise to walk the girls thru the steps they will take to earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award. There is a review of the requirements for completing a Journey, and then creating a Take Action project based on their observations of a local issue. The class includes a discussion to help the girls develop an understanding of sustainability and by discussing how others may experience the same problem that their project helped resolve.
*** This is a required training for girls interested in earning their Bronzer Award.***
All age appropriate girls and volunteers are welcome to attend. Review requirements for earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award.
In this course we will review the requirements for earning the Girl Scout Silver Award and completing the required Journey pre-requisite. Girls will learn how to explore their community and issues that are important to them, develop a project plan and develop a plan to make the impact of their Take Action project is sustainable.
***This is a required training for girls interested in earning their Silver Award.***
All age appropriate girls and volunteers are welcome to attend. Review requirements for earning the Girl Scout Silver Award.
In this course we will review the requirements for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award and completing the required Journeys. Girls will learn how to explore their community and issues that are important to them, develop a project plan, measure their personal outcomes, and ensure the impact of their Take Action project is sustainable.
***This is a required training for girls interested in earning their Gold Award.***
All age appropriate girls and volunteers are welcome to attend. Review requirements for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award.
This course is designed for adults who have a desire or passion for facilitating adult learning! In this course, participants will learn about individual learning styles, how to follow training curriculums, use of visuals and specialized training techniques, and how to keep the attendees engaged!
